Extend your Run

Guy Lafleur trail is part of the Trans Canada Trail which – as the name suggests – nearly crosses the whole country, with a few short sections that are incomplete. In theory, you could carry on from here the whole way to Bragg Creek or Nova Scotia.

Local Tips

  • This trail is off the beaten path for many people. You’re unlikely to see more than a couple of other folks at most, but wildlife sightings are common. Remember to carry bearspray, avoid using headphones, and make plenty of noise.

  • This is a great early season long run that can be extended to Heart Creek, Quaite Valley, Baldy Pass and as far as Bragg Creek if you are looking for something bigger. It’s relatively low elevation means that it melts out from snow before many other Bow Valley Trails, and the lack of traffic means that it typically doesn’t get as icy as others in the spring.

  • There are some old wooden bike features on the section from Dead Man’s Flats to Heart Creek that are in various states of disrepair. Watch your footing on these, as it’s not uncommon for the wooden steps to give way under runners’ weight.

  • Due to ongoing development associated with Three Sisters Mountain Village on the Canmore end of the trail and Thunderstone Quarry on the Dead Man’s Flats, access on this trail is constantly evolving. Parking and the exact route can change frequently.
